PAGNANELLI, Edward V. Sr., born Sept. 22, 1922, in Steubenville to the late Rocco and Madeline Romano Pagnanelli and died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Sienna Woods Nursing Home
Ed was a Steubenville Fireman for 30 years and served as the fire secretary.
He also served as president of Local 228, Steubenville Firefighters and was a pension committee member of the Ohio Association of Firefighters Pension Committee for the 6th District.
Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Occupational Medal (Germany). After the war Ed was in the U.S. Army Reserves until he retired in 1981 as a Chief Warrant Officer IV after 38 years of military service. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
Ed was active with scouting as a boy and held various adult leadership roles with Troop 10 at St. Anthony Church. He also served as the district commissioner and Chairman of the Chief Logan District (Ohio side) of the Ft. Steuben Area Council 459 of the Boy Scouts of America. He was the recipient of the Logan Award for campers in scouting, Scouting Training Award, District Award of Merit, St. George Medal for his leadership in scouting in the Catholic Church and the Silver Beaver Award. Ed was honored by the Jeffersonian Lodge in the Year of the Child (1980) for his many years of outstanding commitment to the children of the Steubenville community in the spirit of true Italian Heritage.
Ed was a member of the former St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He also held memberships in the American Legion Post #33, Army Reserve Officers Association and International Association of Firefighters.
In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Clara Bonafede Pagnanelli, who died April 22, 2011, an infant daughter, Cynthia, a sister Anna Marie D'Anniballe and a brother, Robert Pagnanelli, Sr.
Survived by sons, Ed Pagnanelli, Jr. (Sandy) of Dublin, OH and Len Pagnanelli (Jodi) of Steubenville and daughter, Carol Pagnanelli (Hank) of Gahanna, OH
Calling hours are Wednesday 4-8 p,m, at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville, where services will be held 10 a,m, Thursday, Fr. James Dunfee will officiate. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Central High School, Lanman Hall Renovations or Valley Hospice.
