The Steubenville Art Association presented a mural of early Fort Steuben to representatives of the Historic Fort Steuben on Aug. 8.
The mural artist is Margaret Muhleman of New Philadelphia who has painted all her life and has studied under national and internationally known artists. She is a freelance art instructor and coordinates workshops for various groups throughout the Tri-State Area. Muhleman has taught at the former Jefferson Community College and Belmont Technical College.
Her paintings hang in private and corporate locations throughout the United States with six of her paintings displayed locally.
Her favorite creation to date is the mural, which took 74 days to paint on the wall of the main exhibition room. It illustrates the topography and vegetation of the area at the time as well as the reason the fort was built. The mural can be used as an interactive learning tool for visual history instruction.
The mural can be viewed at the Historic Fort Steuben's Visitors Center, 120 S. Third St., Steubenville.
