WELLSBURG - The Brooke girls soccer team earned its first win of the season Monday with a 1-0- decision over visiting Steubenville Catholic Central, handing the Crusaders their first loss of the season.
Cheyenne Hudson scored an unassisted goal 28 minutes into the contest and the Bruins' defense made it stand.
"Offensively, we maintained the ball really well," said Brooke coach Lee Weppler. "Their keeper (Carly Abraham) played extremely strong in the net and kept them in it. She played very well."
Abraham finished with 11 saves.
Marena Cline totaled two saves for the Bruins (1-4), who host John Marshall today.
Catholic Central (3-1) visits Weirton Madonna today at the J.C. Williams Complex.
Maroon Knights blank Redskins
MINGO JUNCTION - The Wheeling Central girls soccer team defeated host Indian Creek, 16-0, Monday at Muth Field.
Ashton Cross, Bailey Clark and Aspen Matlock each had three goals for the Maroon Knights (2-0).
The Redskins fell to 0-3.
Redskins top Red Knights
TORONTO - Indian Creek's Ian McIntosh was the medalist with his 42 Monday at Dyer Country Club as the Redskins defeated host Toronto, 181-206.
Also for the Redskins, Cole Yeater shot 44, Aaron Foldi had a 47 and Trevor Hennis a 48.
For Toronto, John-Mike Romey carded a 43, Brad Melville a 46, Ben Hlivko a 58 and Nick Ighnat a 59.
Crusaders down Panthers
RAYLAND - Mike Manfresca's 1-over 37 earned him medalist honors Monday at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course as Catholic Central topped host Buckeye Local, 165-189.
Austin Meronoff fired a 39, Josh Merriman a 44 and Jason Bensur a 45 for the Crusaders.
Ricky Sempkowski led the Panthers with a 45. Kyle Sutphin and Bo Walker each shot 46 and Clint Henry had a 52.
Brooke defeats Bears
EAST LIVERPOOL - Brooke seniors Austin Schambach and Eric Kenny each fired 1-over 37s Monday at Turkana Golf Course to lead the Bruins over host Oak Glen, 158-208.
Also for Brooke, Logan Lojszczyk shot 41 and Cody Dodd a 44.
For the Golden Bears, Matt McLaughlin had a 47, Taylor Kincaid a 51, Hayley Spurlock a 54 and Jacob Stipec a 56.
Blue Devils win again
HOOKSTOWN, Pa. - Two players went under par for Burgettstown Monday at Ponderosa Golf Course in its 186-231 victory over Bentworth.
Owen Miller's 2-under 33 and Cody Dobbins' 1-under 34 led the Blue Devils to a 3-0 record. Luc Luc Biongiorni carded a nice 37 and Drake Hoberek and Hunter Lecker each shot 41.
