To the editor:
There is a meeting in progress as I write this letter, to decide whether or not the cross on the Steubenville logo should be removed, due to the fact that a Steubenville woman stated that she was offended by the cross being on the logo.
I know many citizens who are offended in this country. I, too, am offended.
I am offended that the government removed the Ten Commandments from our government buildings and public institutions. I am offended that the government had taken prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance out of schools. I am offended that we are losing our rights. We all have had someone, either family members or friends, who has been killed in battle to protect us and keep us free. But now, in this new age, it seems that our country is turning into a dictatorship rather than a free country.
What happened to our Constitution? It has been added to, taken away from and changed to the point that is almost unrecognizable to the original document. Our country was founded on freedom - freedom in all things that the Constitution grants us. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to bear arms and freedom of choice. Well, our choices are being taken away. Soon there won't be any freedom.
If you look back a few years ago when a teacher (and parents) had the right to discipline their students or child, and prayer was in schools, do you ever remember of a student or someone coming in and shooting at random, killing and injuring multiple people? You older citizens, were you afraid to go to school in fear of getting shot? Does that tell you anything? Discipline was a must at that time, and students were at least a little fearful and behaved with respect or paid the price, but now it is not allowed.
I know that times are changing and its not looking good. We must speak up and let our concerns be known, otherwise we are going to be a lost country. Speak up before it is too late. That is what freedom is all about.
Who is being hurt when the Ten Commandments are displayed? If you don't like it, don't look at it. That is freedom. Who is being hurt when a prayer or the Pledge of Allegiance is recited? If you don't like it, don't participate. That is freedom.
Who is being hurt by the cross being on the Steubenville logo? If you don't like it, don't look at it. That is freedom. Why should the minority rule the majority? That is not freedom.
Thank you, Mrs. Offended. Because of you, I had the courage to speak my mind. That is freedom. I hope the cross stays. May God bless you and our country.
