to meet Sept. 11
The Jefferson County Chapter of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association will be held Sept. 11 at the First Presbyterain Church of Toronto located at 116 N. Third St., Toronto.
A reception for new retirees will be held at 10:30 a.m. with the business meeting to get under way at 11 a.m. Linda Smith, program/volunteers coordinator at Urban Mission Ministries in Steubenville, will be the guest speaker.
Lunch will be served at noon with the menu including baked steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw and assorted homemade desserts.
At 1 p.m. John Buch from the STRS will be on hand to discuss health care and field questions.
The community service project for the September meeting will be the collection of school supplies to benefit the Neighborhood House in Steubenville.

Council to meet
Ladies Auxiliary County Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Smithfield American Legion Post 396.
All members current on their dues are welcome to attend.

Corn roast planned at Knights hall
Immaculate Heart of Mary Council No. 472, Knights of Columbus, will hold its annual corn roast Thursday at the council hall.
The cost for the hot dog and corn roast is $3. The event is open to all members and their guests with doors opening at 4:45 p.m. and corn being served at 5 p.m.
Refreshments will be available in the social room.
Open house at
The summer series of open houses at the Crew House Museum on Main Street will continue Sunday, with guests welcome to tour the facility from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Richmond Community Historical Society and is held the second and fourth Sunday of the month.
There is no admission charge.
The open houses will continue during the same times on Sept. 9 and Sept. 22.
The historical society is preparing for its annual Quaker Day which will be observed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29.
Seniors to meet
The Three Score Seniors met July 26 at Undo's at the Holiday Inn - Weirton with President Barbara Purks welcoming members and guests and introducing Blanche Tyson, who gave the invocation and led in opening ceremonies.
Everyone received leis.
After dinner, Vice President Larry Purks introduced Splendid Sound, a gospel, inspirational and spiritual group that includes David Meyer, Chelsea Glegg, Craig McClauslen and Jimmy Ray. Secretary Pat Deletka and Treasurer Joan Villa gave reports.
Membership Chair Josie Elliott introduced new members John Fields, Audrey Phillips and Maggie Stewart.

Saturday dance to benefit grange
There will be a dance party to benefit the Brush Creek Grange, county Road 55, Salineville, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.
All ages are welcome.
Admission is by donation. No alcohol is permitted. There will be oldies music with line, round and square dancing.
