Huskies top Panthers

CADIZ - Drew Horn was the medalist with a 38 Monday as the Harrison Central golf team defeated Buckeye Local, 182-207, at Cadiz Country Club.

Also for the Huskies, James Thompson and Austin Kowalski each shot 46 and Bryce Walrath had a 52 .

For the Panthers, Ricky Sempkowski shot a 46, Clint Henry a 49, Kyle Sutphin a 53 and Matt Miller a 59.

Williams golf tourney coming up

CHESTER - The Fritz Williams Memorial Golf Classic will be held Sept. 1 at Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course with a 9 a.m. shotgun. The cost is $240 per team and includes golf, cart, lunch and prizes.

PAC to hold cookout

STEUBENVILLE - The Polish Athletic Club will his its Pigskin Kick-off cookout at 6 p.m. Friday in the pavilion. Members are encouraged to wear the colors of their favorite teams and bring a side dish. The club will provide refreshments, hot dogs and hamburgers.

Pannett records an ace

CHESTER - Dick Pannett recorded a hole-in-one at Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course. He used an 8-iron on the 135-yard par 3 17th hole. The shot was witnessed by Dave Chafin, Don Jackson and Donnie Townsend.

Lish records an ace

HOOKSTOWN, Pa. - Brian Lish recorded a hole-in-one at Ponderosa Golf Course. The Wellsburg resident used an 8-iron on the 147-yard par 3 14th hole. The shot was witnessed by A.J. Robinson and Richard Butler.

Softball league being formed

STEUBENVILLE - The Ohio Valley Senior Men's Softball League is forming a fall league and is looking for teams. Teams from the Steubenville or Weirton are are asked to contact Troy Kirkendall at the Steubenville Recreation Department at (740) 283-6124, ext. 4002.

Striders finish season

STEUBENVILLE - The Steuben Striders recently finished their 39th season with seven members of the program competing in the Hershey's Track and Field Games - Marcus Kelley, Marshawn Kelley, Jalen McGhee, Shane Smith, Jorian Jones, T'Kayla Kelley and Mitch Wukelic.

Kelley, Kelley, McGhee and Smith were the district champions in the 4x100 relay in 50.71 in the 13-14 age group at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

During the season, the Memorial Mile, run in recognition of the founder, the late Robert Young, was won by: John Bolster (boys, 15-up), Suki Almeida (girls, 15-up), Joey Schlich (boys, 14-under) and Josie Poulin (girls, 14-under).

Two records were set in the 7-8 age group by Anna Schlich in the girls 1600 in 7:23.41 and by Robert Schwartz in the boys 1600 in 7:10.81.

The awards handed out at the annual banquet were: Bob Young (Joey Nodianos and Michaela Stouz), President's (Peter Burgsma and Joey Johnson), Elizabeth Montgomery (Kateri Poulin), Eugene Hargrove (Mitch Wukelic), Gary Murray (Daniel Bolster), Keri Simms (Mariah Zimmerman) and Tracy Marlina Young Pleasant (Sabrina Jones).

The annual scholarships were handed out to Kasey Smith and Brandon Poulin.
