RG health coverage will terminate

From staff reports , The Herald-Star

STEUBENVILLE - Health coverage for workers at the now-defunct RG Steel Corp. will terminate Aug. 31.

"We knew it was coming," United Steelworkers of America Local 1190 President Ernie Gambellin said today.

Last week Gambellin had said the USW was working on finding affordably-priced health care alternatives for their membership. He said vision and dental coverage already has terminated, but official notice that health benefits would be gone at the end of the month was delivered this morning, he said.

"We just got our notifications that insurance will be ending on the 31st," he said. "All benefits were seized and hospitalization will be ending on the 31st."

RG Steel filed for bankruptcy on May 31, seeking protection from creditors while it liquidated its holdings in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The company recently sought the bankruptcy court's permission to terminate its labor agreement with the USW.
