STEUBENVILLE - Juanita Thorn, Community Action Council Head Start director, has announced a Head Start class for pre-school children will be opened this fall in the former Bantam Ridge school building in Wintersville.
"Services will be provided for 3- and 4-year-old children who live within the Indian Creek Local School District. The classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays," explained Thorn.
"There will be one classroom with a teacher and a teacher's aide," Thorn added.
"The Head Start program is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year. The program provides services for low-income children and their families with a comprehensive child development program. The services include assisting families through education, health, disabilities, mental health, family engagement, male involvement and social services," said Thorn.
"The children take part in appropriate learning activities, educational field trips, nutritious meals, health screens and observations. Bus transportation is provided, and there is no cost for children to attend the Head Start classes," noted Thorn.
She said Head Start Centers are also located in Steubenville, Adena and Tiltonsville.
Applications can be completed online at www.jeffersoncountycac.com or by calling the Community Action Council at (740) 282-0971, extension 151 or extension 146.
