To the editor:
The 2012 Follansbee Community Days festival has concluded, and the committee and I would like to take this time to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this celebration, especially our city council, the Brooke County Board of Education, the vendors and our very generous sponsors and the Herald-Star and WTOV-TV for their tremendous coverage.
The committee and I would also like to thank everyone for their kind support and positive feedback for our new location.
The picnic in the park was a huge success, with the bands and 12 children beating six adults in the tug of war was unbelievable. The Oil Can Derby on Mark Avenue provided a great new event for our youth.
Our keynote speaker, West Virginia University Athletic Director Oliver Luck, and our honorees provided inspiring insights at our kick-off dinner. After the parade, listening to the McDonald Pipe Band playing "Country Roads" and the West Virginia University Mountaineer blasting his musket on the last note at Steve Meca's house was a Top 10 moment.
The car show, with the dunk tank, was a tremendous time. The Shout band, featuring the Legends of Soul, rocked the house Sunday night, and the Zambelli fireworks provided the greatest grand finale I've ever seen.
When everything was finally wrapped up Sunday night and many of the committee members were taking their first opportunity to catch their breath, we started discussing the 2013 Community Days, and on Monday we were already making calls.
The committee's goal is continuous improvement, and we are planning a bigger and better 2013 Follansbee Community Days, as it will mark our 20th anniversary.
Thank for you for coming and celebrating with us in 2012, and we hope to see you in 2013.
Mayor of Follansbee
