Wellsburg girl

wins contest

WELLSBURG - Ava Nicole Shane, 6-year-old daughter of Mike and Geri Shane of Wellsburg, was crowned Little Miss West Virginia Princess in Clarksburg, W.Va.

She competed and won Overall Supreme West Virginia Princess and has been invited to compete in the nationals in November.

Shane is a Wellsburg Colt cheerleader, Girl Scout and attends gymnastics at X-treme Tyme Cheering. She has also won several local titles such as Brooke County Fair Queen, Applefest Princess and Highpoint, Little Miss Christmas Queen, Most Beautiful and Miss Photogenic.

Madonna Friends to hold picnic

WEIRTON - Madonna High School will host a Friends of Madonna Picnic from noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds on Kings Creek Road.

Concessions will open at noon; alumni registration will take place from noon to 8 p.m.; games will be played from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; live entertainment will be available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; "Over/Under" will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and a drawing will be held at 9 p.m.

Drawing tickets will be sold at the high school prior to the picnic and at the event.

The event is open to alumni and current students and their families.

Magician to appear at library

WELLSBURG - Dave Powers "The Magician" will perform at the Brooke County Public Library on Friday at 4 p.m.

Clarksburg native Dave Powers is an illusionist, ventriloquist, escape artist, mentalist and live entertainment producer.

Family Fun Night announced

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Reading Council will hold a Family Fun Night at the Brooke County Public Library on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

All age groups are invited to attend the evening of stories and activities conducted by Maryann Ehle and members of the council.
