golf scramble set
The fifth-annual Valley Hospice golf scramble will be held Monday at the Steubenville Country Club.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided as well as a steak dinner following the scramble.
The top three teams will win pro shop credits at the club. Prizes also will be awarded for longest putt and longest drive. Teams will have the opportunity to participate in a putting contest, win drawing prizes and try their luck at a hole-in-one contest for a brand new car, sponsored by Team Ford, Lincoln, Toyota.
Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Valley Hospice Whispered Wishes Program, a program that grants end-of-life wishes to Valley Hospice patients. This program has been able to grant a high school senior, with a rare form of cancer, her greatest wish of being able to graduate and have a graduation party; reunite a family who hadn't been together for several years by purchasing plane and bus tickets so they could be with their loved one one last time; and purchase a Build-a-Bear so a young mother could record an everlasting message for her child to remember her by, according to a hospice spokesperson. It also provides simple daily luxuries such as haircuts or special edible treats for nursing home patients.
"The Whispered Wishes Program provides wonderful gifts to our patients and their families," said Cynthia Bougher, chief executive officer. "We depend on the generosity of our community and proceeds from events like the golf scramble to keep this program going."
Sponsors of this year's scramble include Trinity Medical Center, Wise Hospice Options, the Health Plan, Borden Office Equipment, Hauser Furniture, Walmart Distribution Center, Banford and Terry Exley, Capstone Holding Co., Team Ford, Lincoln, Toyota and Ohio River Collieries.
Team packages and sponsorship opportunities remain available for the event.
