City street seal program begins Wednesday

July 17, 2012
From staff reports , The Herald-Star

STEUBENVILLE - The 2012 city street seal program will start at 8 a.m. Wednesday, weather permitting.

According to City Engineer Michael Dolak, the seal program treatment is a two-part process.

"The first application will be applied to the existing pavement from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and work will continue on Friday, weather permitting. The second application is anticipated to start at 7 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. on July 26. Work will continue on July 27 and on July 30, weather permitting," said Dolak.

He noted the second application process involves closing the street to all traffic during the procedure and for approximately four to six hours while the material cures. Streets are anticipated to be re-opened to traffic by 6 p.m.

"This pavement preservation application is a process that seals the existing pavement surface, helping to extend the life of the pavement," Dolak explained.

"Streets included in this year's program are portions of Fays Lane West, Hiddenwood Drive, Ravine Street, White Oaks Drive, Buena Vista Boulevard, Sheffield Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue," Dolak said.

The streets to be sealed will have "no parking" signs posted at least one day in advance.

"Vehicles left on the street will be towed and owners will be responsible for towing and storage fees," he added.

Dolak said the Strawser Construction Co. of Columbus has been awarded the project bid. The project is funded with the 0.7 city income tax revenue.
