To the editor:
On July 29-30, I will be competing in the National American Ohio Teen Pageant in Columbus.
On June 14, the Herald-Star published a wonderful piece announcing my being chosen as a state finalist for the competition. At this time, I would like to recognize the businesses, close family members and friends who made this dream a reality.
I would like to pay tribute to the following: Sunset Motors, Volkswagen, Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler Inc.; Daily Insurance and Financial Group; Aubrey's Bakery; Academy of Tae Kwon Do Karate Studio; R.K. Jones Landscaping; Lynette Peterson; the Barnhouse family; Ron and Suzy Rousey; Dustin Call; Darlene Harris; Eleanor and Tom Kindsvatter; and my parents, Heather and Steven Lucas of Wintersville. Without all of their efforts, this would not have been possible.
I am truly humbled by their outreach to me in achieving one of my life's goals. By competing in this pageant, I promise to represent my hometown heroes with poise, dignity and grace. My overall goal is to show young adults and my peers that a disability does not have to limit you, but can be embraced to help you shine.
