Working together can make difference

July 1, 2012

To the editor:

Three years ago, one of our members, Terry Mantos, saw a need in our community to feed people. Thus was started the Lunch Bunch, a program that offers a meal at no charge from noon to 2 p.m. every Friday.

It started out small, but in recent weeks has grown to more than 40 meals a week. Emily Gualtiere is now the chairman of the Lunch Bunch and has added new features to the program. As a volunteer at God's Outreach Food Pantry, she has seen a steady increase of clients to the pantry.

Our local economy has taken many hard hits, causing the increased number of people in need. We began to think what a difference we could make as a community of God's people if we could offer more outreaches such as the Lunch Bunch.

We area aware of a program at the Two Ridge Presbyterian Church on Thursdays. There may be others that we are not aware of, but we know there are other days of the week in the Wintersville area that people are in need of a meal.

We would like to invite other churches and civic organizations in the Wintersville area to pray about starting such an outreach. We are called to serve one another with love and compassion. Take this opportunity to reach out to those less fortunate at a time they really need to see God's love in action.

Feel free to contact us at the Wintersville Community Chapel at (740) 264-7873 for information, or stop by any Friday and see for yourself.

Let's work together to make a difference in our community.
