A tradition that started last summer will continue Sunday when the second Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival is held.
The event, which will take place all day in the area surrounding Hollywood City Center, the Harding practice facility and Harding Stadium, will give residents from around the Tri-State Area a chance to enjoy family oriented activities, experience great entertainment and help celebrate our nation's 236th birthday.
Officials with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce have again teamed with WTOV-TV and other area businesses to plan what is expected to be one of the region's largest celebrations of our nation's independence.
The day will begin at noon with opening ceremonies at the Harding practice facility. A car cruise-in will be held from noon to 3 p.m. in the Harding Stadium parking lot. The Harding practice facility will be the site of nonfood vendors and a family fun zone from noon to 5 p.m., with food vendors scheduled to operate from noon to 10 p.m. A beer garden will be set up in the Kroger parking lot.
All of those activities will lead up to an evening of even more great events - Harding Stadium performances by Mount Pleasant's Joe Zelek at 7 p.m. and the Clarks, a Pittsburgh-area favorite, at 8:15 p.m. Steubenville's annual fireworks display, featuring Pyrotecnico of New Castle, Pa., will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. That display will be shot off from the hillside overlooking the stadium and Hollywood City Center.
While admission will be charged to enter the stadium to enjoy the concert, area residents are welcome to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to watch the fireworks from the practice facility or other areas surrounding the stadium.
Once again, area businesses have stepped forward to help make Sunday's event a success. Major sponsors include Chesapeake Energy, the City of Steubenville, Hollywood City Center, Steubenville City Schools and TEAM Automotive. Other sponsors include Choice Brands of Ohio, the Fort Steuben Mall, Iron City Distributing, WesBanco, the Herald-Star, AEP Ohio, Kwik King Food Stores, New York Life, Ambulance Service and Jefferson Security. Also, Peoples National Bank served as a concert ticket outlet for the southern part of Jefferson County.
The decision of these businesses to step forward and work together to make the festival success is another example of people joining forces for the benefit of the community. Those efforts help to improve the quality of life of residents throughout our region.
We hope area residents will participate in some or all of the events that will be a part of the Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival. It's a chance to show your pride in our community while helping to celebrate the birth of our nation.
