Friends of Steubenville Fine Arts plan summer sonata for June 29

June 21, 2012
The Herald-Star

The Friends of Steubenville Fine Arts is making plans for its second-annual summer sonata to be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 29 at the Steubenville Country Club.

The group raises money to benefit the fine arts department at Steubenville High School. Last year's successful event raised nearly $9,000 to benefit the students of SHS.

The cost is $25 per person. Tickets are available at the door or in advance by calling (740) 381-6148.

The sonata will feature live steel drum entertainment, hot and cold hors d'oeuvres, a sangria fountain, desserts and auction items, some of which include:

-- Tickets for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ohio State Buckeyes;

-- Tickets for a performance of "Jersey Boys" at the Benedum Theater;

-- A personal performance of the Steubenville High School Band at the home of the successful bidder;

-- An overnight stay at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort; and

-- Tickets for the Pittsburgh Zoo and Kennywood Park.

During the past year, the organization funded a special performance of the play "Cinderella" for every grade school student of the Steubenville City Schools, paid for repairs of the steel drums at Harding Middle School, made cash donations to the various fine art departments at Steubenville High School and was instrumental in the donation of the grand piano by the OFWC Woman's Club of Steubenville.

The group also will be supplementing the cost of the costumes for the play "Les Miserables" being produced this July at Steubenville High School, according to Tom D'Anniballe, president.
