The biggest fundraiser of the Weirton United Way's year is fast approaching, and we hope the community shows its support.
Monday will see the 31st-annual Weirton United Way Golf Classic at Williams Country Club, which has been able to bring in more than $50,000 in each of the last four years for the organization, which provides assistance to 15 local agencies.
Golfers from throughout our local communities will be coming out for a day of fun and relaxation, while also contributing to the success of this year's Weirton United Way campaign.
We would like to thank all those who have stepped up to sponsor this annual event, and everyone who is volunteering their time to help out on Monday.
We especially want to recognize tournament director John Kirlangitis and the members of the planning committee who have put countless hours into planning the Golf Classic.
Without their contributions, none of this would ever be possible.
The leaders and volunteers of the Weirton United Way work tirelessly throughout the year to raise the funds needed to assist its member agencies. Without this assistance many of the programs in our community probably could not go on.
But, of course, this fundraising also relies on the generosity of our community to succeed. We understand money continues to be tight for many of us, but, just as we will do many times during the year, we urge our residents to find a way to contribute to the Weirton United Way and help these organizations provide the programs and services to benefit those in need.
We hope to see our residents step up to show their support for these organizations and the community by uniting behind the Weirton United Way.
