STEUBENVILLE - After months of speculation, local leaders have confirmed Hess Energy is coming to Steubenville.
Progress Alliance Executive Director Ed Looman said the energy giant is leasing the former Staffilino dealership on Sunset Boulevard.
"Obviously, I think it's great for the area," he said. "Hess is a great company, and we're certainly happy to have them establishing an office in our community."
While details are still sketchy, Looman said Hess will be using the property for its field office. He said company officials expect to be working out of the office by summer. "In the meantime, they're operating in the area," Looman said. "I don't know how many people will be housed there, but there will be employees working there."
He said Graecon Construction is handling the renovations.
"It's great to see them coming in," he said. "We've had a lot of discussions with Hess about using local vendors and hiring local workers - it's really great to see them hiring local contractors. Hopefully, going forward,t here will be some employment opportunities for local residents."
