Brooke class

planning reunion

The Brooke High School Class of 1972 will hold its 40-year reunion on June 9 at the St. Francis Centre in Follansbee.

A social hour begins at 6 p.m., with a class photo at 6:45 p.m. and a dinner buffet at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by D.J. JoAnna Sponaugle.

Appetizers will be served during the social hour with the event catered by Scaviti's of Follansbee.

The dinner buffet consists of roast beef, chicken marsala, pasta, salad, parsley potatoes, Italian seasoned green beans, rolls and dessert. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and beer are served. The event is BYOB.

Classmates who plan to attend should make reservations by June 1. A single reservation is $40, and a couple/guest is $75. Checks can be made payable to Brooke High Class of 1972 and mailed to: Brooke Reunion, 3911 Palisades Drive, Weirton, WV 26062.

Donations to the Brooke High Class Fund are being accepted. Inquiries can be directed to (304)797-8248.

Summer reading club begins Friday

"Dream Big - Read" is the theme of the summer reading club at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County, which begins June 1 and continues through the end of July.

The summer reading club is open to all ages, birth to adult. A list of activities is avaiable at all the branches.

Hogs for Hope plan bike run

The Hogs for Hope American Cancer Society Relay for Life team will hold a bike run June 2 to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at the Wellsburg Fire Hall on 12th Street, with all bikes out at 11:30 a.m. The run will end at Brooke High School, and cars are welcome also.

A picnic lunch will follow. The cost is $20 per driver and $15 per passenger, with T-shirts given to the first 100 participants.

School retirees

gather for lunch

Twenty Steubenville City School retirees met for lunch on May 10 at the Mill Creek Inn.

The next lunch will be held June 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Margaret's in Toronto. Anyone interested in joining can call Linda Holub. All SCS retirees are welcome.

Garibaldi Sisters

mark anniversary

The Sisters of the Garibaldi celebrated the 77th anniversary of the organization with a banquet held recently at the Garibaldi Lodge in Follansbee.

Officers are Kathie DiCarlantonio, president; Gina Marchetti, vice president; Joanne Bernabei, corresponding secretary, financial secretary, Lucy Takach, and treasurer, Rita Robinson.

Members and guests enjoyed a homestyle chicken dinner catered by Lena and Harry West. Also serving on the banquet committee were Fil DiCarlantonio, Joyce Parrish, Ida Pulice, Bernabei and DiCarlantonio.

A social hour included door prizes and drawings. A special presentation was made to Pauline Thomaselli from Takach, club historian.

The next meeting will be held June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Garibaldi Lodge.

Civil Air Patrol

open house set

The Civil Air Patrol Wheeling Composite Squadron will hold an open house at 6 p.m. June 5 at its headquarters at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport.

This is the open enrollment period for cadet programs to include recruitment for color guard. Youth from age 12 to 18 and their parents are encouraged to attend.

The squadron also is looking for adult volunteers to serve in emergency services for search and rescue missions as air crew or ground team members or at mission bases. Experience is not necessary.

The Civil Air Patrol provides training and FEMA certification.

Picnic with Books

is Wednesday

The Brooke County Reading Council will hold a Picnic with Books, their latest Family Fun Night, at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the River Room of the Brooke County Public Library.

There will be games, dancing, crafts and food donated by local businesses. Anyone interested should register by calling (304) 737-1551.

Club to meet

The Weirton Steel Managment Club will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Gio's Family Restaurant in the banquet room.
