OPEN HOUSE: The Bergholz EMS Education Center at 275 Second St., Bergholz, will be the site of an open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Over the past year, the old Church of God building has been remodeled into an educational center for the department and community. In the future, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid classes will be offered in addition to other classes.
The open house falls during National EMS Week.
BAKED STEAK DINNER: The Bergholz EMS is organizing a baked steak dinner for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Department.
The menu includes baked steak, salad, mashed potatoes, vegetable, roll, beverage and dessert. Cost is by donation. Takeouts will be available.
JULY 4 CELEBRATION: Nominations are being accepted for a Youth of the Year award for individuals age 10 to 18. Youth must be a resident of Bergholz. During the holiday celebration, an outstanding youth of the community will be applauded for services provided either in the school, church or community setting.
Nominations should include name, address and a explanation of why they should be considered for the honor. Nominations are due June 1 and should be sent to Jessica Champion, 533 Fifth St., Bergholz, OH 43908. Questions can be directed to (740) 768-7027.
"Community Pride Keeps Us Alive" is the theme of the July 4 celebration being planned through the combined efforts of the fire department, Bergholz Ruritan Club, Bergholz Woman's Club and a group of Bergholz's young adults.
The July 4 festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with the annual parade. Lineup starts at 10 a.m. and will form on Second Street and Kennedy and proceed to the fire station. Cash prizes will be awarded in 14 categories.
Following the parade, there will be programs and entertainment on the grounds of the fire department. There will be children's games and rides, and the Bergholz Woman's Club will serve free hot dogs and soft drinks.
In addition to rides for the children, there will be a 50-50 drawing and a car show.
