HERRICK, Michael R., 29, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, at U.P.M.C. in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born Feb. 3, 1983, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of Michael P. "Satch" and Alberta (Lugano) Herrick of Mingo Junction.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Michael W. and Agnes Herrick, and maternal grandparents, Albert and Sue Lugano.
Michael worked as a water plant operator for the Mingo Junction Water Department. He was also a firefighter and EMT at Mingo Junction, Hillindale and Brilliant fire departments, where he was known to his fellow firefighters as "Little Scratch." He was the recipient of the Star of Life Award from the state of Ohio for saving a young drowning victim. He is a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Junction.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jessica (Fellows) Herrick, whom he married on Oct. 5, 2010; two stepsons, Isaac and Conner Morris of the home; his dog and friend, Bullseye; two sisters, Danielle (Russell) Poziviak of St. Clairsville, Ohio and Nicole (Matthew) Bakos of Xenia, Ohio. He will be greatly missed by two nieces, three nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless firefighter brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and also on Sunday from 6-9 p.m. On Monday, Michael will Lay in State at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 9:15 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m. with Fr. James M. Dunfee, as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio
There will be a vigil service on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.
