The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh Ladies Philoptochos Society recently donated $500 to the Women in Action Against Cancer Coalition with the donation made in the name of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Philoptochos means " friend of the poor."
Mary McElhaney, who serves as the recording secretary for the Metropolis Philoptochos Society and attended the clergy-laity conference for the local society, presented the check to Judy Manfred, president of WIAACC.
The coalition provides women services such as clinical breast exam, breast ultrasound, mammogram screening or diagnostic, breast biopsy, surgical consult, leep and pelvic exam for women who have no insurance or are underinsured.
