plans activities
The Nimble Thimble Federated Club made plans for two activities at its recent meeting, including attending the next Trinity board meeting on Thursday.
Members also will be attending a performance of the Youngstown Connection when the Franciscan University Women's Scholarship Guild hosts its annual fundraising event on May 15. Proceeds go toward the Rose M. DeFede Scholarship.
Woodland Garden
Club makes plans
The Woodland Garden Club met May 3 at the Shorac Family Center in Wintersville where Bobbi Martin and Juanita Welsh served as hostesses.
Paula Nutter read an inspirational message on the "aromas" of God. Members answered roll call by naming a plant in their garden that butterflies enjoy.
Members discussed plans to assist with a landscaping project at the Laurels in Steubenville. Members also will participate in the Salt Fork Beautification Project on May 15-17 assisting with cabin landscaping. The group will have a picnic at Salt Fork on May 16.
The June 7 meeting will be held at Eleanor Drazich's barn with a picnic and plant exchange.
The artistic design featuring a vertical arrangement was presented by Ann Sage. Carole Patton gave the garden tip regarding cleaning and sharpening pruning shears.
Verna Smolinsky presented the program on the life and times of the monarch butterfly.
Art association
workshop detailed
The Steubenville Art Association's next scheduled workshop will be held on May 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Historic Fort Steuben in downtown Steubenville.
Sally Lytle, a painter, illustrator and photographer from the Canton area, will instruct on pastels used in conjunction with water-based media.

Knights treating
moms to dinner
The Knights of Columbus Council 472 will host a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the council hall on Two Ridge Road, Wintersville, with all members' wives and mothers eating free in celeberation of Mother's Day.
It is open to the public. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. The menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, plain or garlic bread, dessert and coffee.
