BRIDGEPORT - The Toronto baseball team cruised to an 11-1 victory over St. John Central Saturday as the Ohio Division IV Eastern District sectional tournament started.
"We were excited to start the tournament," said Red Knights coach Brian Perkins. "Our kids came out, did what they had to do and we look forward to playing on Thursday."
Toronto will play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. contest between Barnesville and host Bridgeport.
Ralph King allowed one hit in the five innings to garner the win.
"Ralph came out and threw a good game for us," said Perkins.
Senior Spenser Sninchak led the offense with a single, double and two RBIs. Tyler Owens added two singles and a triple, Chez Glenn two singles, a double and an RBI and Austin Lucas a single and two RBIs.
"We hit the ball well, we were aggressive on the base paths and it was good to see that out of our guys," said Perkins.
