GRABITS, Walter, 87, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, of township Road 120, Adena, Ohio, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Wheeling Medical Park.
He was born March 5, 1925, in Adena, Ohio, son of the late Joseph and Anna Kozezowki Grabits.
He was a retired reclamation worker for Consol Coal Co., Cadiz, Ohio; a decorated Army veteran of World War II; a UMW Worker of Local 7690 and a Catholic by faith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Margaret Lenko Grabits; a daughter, Christine "Tina" Cologie; two brothers, Stanley and Joseph Grabits; six sisters Baby Eva, Mary Kendjorsky, Stella Sawchuk, Josephine Melchioris, Violet Raggets and Lula Raggets.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Carla) Grabits of Brilliant, Ohio, and Walter A. "Wally" (Priscilla) Grabits of Adena, Ohio; a sister, Katherine Novak of Piney Fork, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Joey Cologie, Cody Sherlock, Lindsay Grabits, Cameron and Cooper Grabits and John and Joe Vermillion; five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received to pay tribute to Walter and celebrate his life at Borkoski Funeral Home, Adena, on Friday from 2-4 p.m., followed by full military honors by the Adena American Legion and funeral service with Joseph Grabits officiating. Interment in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
