To the editor:
Jamie Zepko and I thank all who've helped with the feral cats and the trapping of them on 25th, 26th and 27th streets in Wellsburg.
Special thanks to Steve Tennant of the Brooke County Animal Activists for his help organizing the trapping and the use of the humane traps. Also, a special thanks to Pam Lacefield of the SPCA for the spay and neutering and transporting of the cats. The spay/neuter/release program was a success and will eliminate the unwanted litters of feral cats.
The feral cat problem in Wellsburg is not the fault of the animal or those who try to help them. The problem is due to irresponsible pet owners who don't take care of their pets. Although it is upsetting and unforgivable that some people will hurt and abuse these helpless animals, there is comfort in knowing there are compassionate people who indeed show mercy and help the least of their brethren.
