Charles Wasmer

WASMER, Charles O. "MONK," 85, of Weirton, W.Va., passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at home.

He was born Aug. 27, 1926, in Pickens, W.Va., the son of the late Clarence and Lena Rupp Wasmer.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lois Wasmer Hannah.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Weirton Steel 25- year club, and a veteran of the United States Navy, World War II. Charles retired in March 1990 as a crane operator in the tin mill of Weirton Steel.

On Aug. 26, 1950, he married Lorene Galford in Clarksburg, W.Va.

Surviving are his wife, Lorene Galford Wasmer, sons; Gary (Joanne) Wasmer and William (Mary) Wasmer all of Weirton, W.Va., grandchildren; Justin (Bethany) Wasmer, Megan Wasmer (fiance Jason Williamson), Tracy Wasmer Rocknich, great-grandchildren; Nickolas Rocknich and Baby Wasmer (due in September).

Visitation will be at the Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, W.Va., on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where the funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Chuck Jerman presiding.

Burial will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens.
