TORONTO - Two individuals were arrested April 11 in connection with a rash of vehicle thefts and vandalism in the city, according to City Police Chief Randy Henry.

Shawn Luke Antill, 18, 908 Daniels St., Toronto, has been charged with four counts of criminal mischief, three counts theft and one count of felony theft after turning himself in to police the evening of April 11. The other individual charged is a male juvenile, and police aren't releasing his name or the charges. said Henry.

"(Antill) was out on a $10,000 bond from a prior drug trafficking charge," said Henry, adding Antill currently was lodged in the Jefferson County jail.

Henry said Antill was identified by witnesses allegedly breaking into a vehicle in the 800 block of Daniels Street the weekend of April 8-9. Items allegedly stolen from the vehicle included a gun, knives and a flashlight.

"Every house on the one side got damaged but his," said Henry, adding damage included slashed tires, broken windows and thefts from vehicles. "(Officers) chased Antill to his house. They found the stolen gun in his yard."

Antill and his juvenile accomplice allegedly had been trying vehicle doors and stealing items from unlocked cars, and police had received several complaints, said Henry.

"This was the first vehicle he actually broke into," said the chief, adding the other vehicles were unlocked. "The judge has revoked his bond, and there's no bail set."

Henry said he believed the break-ins were the result of the individuals trying to sell items to raise funds to purchase drugs. He also asked city residents to remain vigilante and lock vehicle and residential doors.

"We've pretty much recovered everything that was stolen," said Henry.
