Toronto Girl Scouts to host car wash
TORONTO - City Girl Scouts Troop 3192 will host a car wash from noon to 2:30 p.m. today at the Riverview United Methodist Church parking lot, 105 N. River Ave.
Steubenville Powerball winner announced
STEUBENVILLE - Mary Ann Boccella, a resident of Pittsburgh, was the Powerball winner of $1 million from a lottery ticket purchased in the city, the Ohio Lottery Commission announced Friday.
Boccella matched all five numbers for the lottery chance that was purchased April 4 at the Speedway gas station at 4455 Sunset Blvd. Boccella will receive $690,000 after taxes are deducted, and Speedway receives a $1,000 bonus for having sold the winning chance, according to lottery officials.
City building changes hands
STEUBENVILLE Ravenna-based Beck Energy has acquired the building at 2814 Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville, for $1.5 million.
The building houses PNC Bank's Sunset Boulevard branch, and owner/founder Raymond Beck says that's not changing.
"The bank is going to stay the bank," he said Friday afternoon. "Nothing changed because we bought it. The bank is still going to operate the bank."
Beck says he bought the property as a real estate investment.
The former owners, Wolf and Rachel Meisels, acquired the property in 2010.
Calvary having revival services
STEUBENVILLE - Calvary Church at 255 N. Fifth St., will have special revival services beginning Sunday at noon and continuing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. each day.
The services will be led by evangelist Terry Null of Louisville, Ky., according to Pastor John Kotsanos.
Paving bids awarded for Route 7 project
STEUBENVILLE - Shelly & Sands of Zanesville was the low bidder and has been awarded the state Route 7 repaving project in Steubenville.
Lauren Holdsworth of the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 communications office said Shelly & Sands submitted a bid of $3,045,803.23 for the work that is expected to start in late May or early June.
Holdsworth said the paving project will start at the city's north city limits and extend to the south city limits.
The completion date for the work is Dec. 31.
Bids were also submitted by Kokosing of Columbus for $3,080,188.93, and Lash Paving of Colerain at $3,295,895.40.
Friends of Smithfield to meet April 21
SMITHFIELD - The Friends of Smithfield group will meet at 1:30 p.m. on April 21 at the Historical Society Building on Main Street.
Renee Garcia, a certified appraiser, will provide her services for a fundraiser for the group in conjunction with events at the Friendship Park ribbon cutting for the new hiking trail.
She will appraise antiques and collectibles from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds part of the park.
There is no limit to the number of items each person may have appraised. The cost of each item to be appraised is $10.
She will not be appraising firearms, signatures and autographs or precious and semiprecious stones.
Other events are being planned at the park that day, including food and beverages.
