WEIRTON -The Big Red softball team traveled to Weir and handed the Red Riders a 9-3 defeat Thursday.
Anna Perrino went the distance in the circle for Big Red, striking out six in the win. Kayla Marker had a single, double and three RBIs to lead Steubenville at the plate. Carmie Biasi added a double and two RBI, Perrino helped her cause with a run-scoring single, and Sierra Fields had two singles.
Danica Rasicci had a single, double and two RBIs to lead the Red Riders. Emily Zatezalo chipped in with two singles and Ashlynn Drizake had an RBI single.
Both teams play again today with Big Red (3-12) traveling to Oak Glen and Weir (4-8) headed to Brooke.

Wildcats blank Cardinals
RICHMOND - The Edison softball team defeated visiting Youngstown Cardinal Mooney 7-0 Thursday.
Caitlin Brenstuhl was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats allowing just three hits with six strikeouts in seven frames. Trisha Trifonoff had a single, home run, and RBI with Kayla Prokopakis adding a home run and two RBIs. Brenstuhl helped her own cause driving in two runs on a single and Molly McCoy added a run-scoring single.
Edison (9-4) is at the Ashland Tournament starting today against Loudonville.

Late frames hurt Bruins
WELLSBURG - The Brooke softball team saw a 4-2 lead turn into a 10-4 loss as Morgantown put up four runs each in the fifth and sixth innings Thursday at the Brooke Athletic Complex.
Shannon Reardon had a home run and a double for the Bruins. Also contributing offensively were Katie O'Connell (two singles), Sam Cusick (double and single), Jessica Kennedy (double), Cassi Camilletti (single) and Kelsey Welsh (single).
Brooke hosts Weir today.

No hitter for Creamer
STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Central softball team received a steller pitching performance from Paige Creamer and picked up five runs in the fifth to break open a 2-0 game en route to a 7-0 win over Bridgeport at Steve Zamana Field.
Creamer didn't allow a hit on the day while striking out 11 and walking two to lead the Crusaders. Maddie Gulan had an RBI triple and Ashlynne Daley had a double that produced two runs. Megan Lloyd added a RBI single, Allee Vandeborne and Micca Mirabella two singles each and Kelsey Grandinetti a double.
Central begins the Akron Invitational today against Windham.

TORONTO - The Toronto softball team trailed Oak Glen 3-0 before picking up four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 7-3 home win Thursday.
Cari Horne went the distance for the Red Knights striking out nine. Rebecca Zeigler had a three-run double with Madison Stoica and Carley Cooper each picking up two singles.
Tayler Maxwell had two singles for the Golden Bears.
Both teams are in action today with Toronto hosting Southern and Oak Glen hosting Big Red.

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek softball team survived a late onslaught by visiting Martins Ferry to claim a 12-11 win Thursday.
Winning pitcher Paige Geanangel had a single, double, and three RBI to lead the Redskins at the plate. Paige DeMattio chipped in with a single, double, and two RBI, Keasha Barz had a home run, and Ashley Starr had two singles and picked up the save in relief.
Indian Creek (11-2) hosts St. Clairsville today.

CADIZ - The Buckeye Local softball team scored two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to come from behind for a 6-2 win at Harrison Central Thursday.
Kierstyn Czuchran and Lauren Swiger each had a home run and two RBI for the Panthers with Dana Bettineschi and Karlee Leonard each picking up three singles. Angel Primovic went the distance to earn the win in the circle.
Summer Gladman led the Huskies with three singles and Kara Dunfee had two of her own.
The teams are set to meet again today, this time at Buckeye Local.
