WELLSBURG - Brooke manufactured two runs - one in the first inning and one in the fifth - for a 2-0 win over visiting Toronto Monday in a pitcher's duel.
The Bruins' Brent Pellen struck out three and walked none, while his counterpart, Tyler Owens, fanned seven and walked three as they both went the distance.
"Both kids threw phenomenal ballgames," said Brooke coach Ron Ujcich. "They both threw strikes, kept their players in the game and everyone played defense behind them."

They each allowed four hits.
"The one that hurt Owens was the walk in the first inning," said Ujcich.
Russell Schwertfeger opened the bottom of the first with a walk. He was bunted to second, stole third and scored on Nick Breen's groundout to third as he beat the throw home from the first baseman.
Brooke did it again in the fifth.
Schwertfeger had an infield single, was sacrificed to second and scored on Breen's single.
"They made the plays in the field," said Toronto head coach Brian Perkins. "Their pitcher threw strikes and we were unable to get hits when we needed them.
"Coach Ujcich and his staff have that team playing really well right now."
Brooke is 8-6. The Bruins host University today and travel to Magnolia Wednesday.
"We have told the kids to do the little things right and the big things will come," said Ujcich. "Our pitchers are working ahead of the batters and keeping our defense alive and alert and the defense is making plays.
"Although we missed a few opportunities tonight, we are getting the timely hitting. We are moving kids up and getting them in.
"Brent threw a great game. He was throwing strikes and getting on top of batters. When you have that from your pitcher, you are going to have success."
Toronto hosts Weirton Madonna Wednesday.
"We better be ready," said Perkins.
