WEIRTON - City officials have announced dates for the spring cleanup.
Public Works Director John Brown stated the cleanup for metal items will be held citywide on Friday. Crews will pick up metal items throughout the city from 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Brown said the items to be picked up on metals day include stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, hot water tanks, old railings, bicycle frames and metal shelving.
"We need people to have these items out by the curb before 7 a.m.," he said.
The official spring cleanup is set for April 16-20 for all other remaining household items. Brown said cleanup crews will collect on residents' regular garbage days.
"If you put your trash out for Monday morning, that's the day we'll collect for spring cleanup as well, and so on for all the other days," Brown added.
The Public Works Department is requesting residents have household goods on the curbside before 7 a.m. A fee will be assessed to residents if crews return to a completed area.
Brown said cleanup week will be limited to household goods only, and crews will not pick up construction material, vehicle tires or parts, tree trimmings and brush, propane tanks, hazardous material, air conditioners or lawnmowers.
Also, recyclable materials will not be picked up during the week and will resume collection on the residents' next scheduled recycling week.
Officials advise an ordinance prohibiting the removal, or scavenging, of garbage or any other articles placed at curbside for "clean up" pickup is in effect.
Individuals cited for this activity will be fined, according to officials.
