STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville softball team dropped a doubleheader at home Sunday against the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford, 6-1 and 13-4.
"I am encouraged," head coach Terry Leighty said. "I thought that first game was the best game of the year for us."
FUS' Katrina Fabian hit a homerun to left-center with two outs in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 lead. The homer was the first of Fabian's collegiate career.
Bradford's bats came alive in the final three innings, however, as they notched three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to seal the 6-1 victory.
There were some bright spots for FUS?in the second game. Mallori Linscomb went 3-3 at the plate with two doubles, a single, three RBIs and a run scored. Linscomb's RBI double in the first inning gave FUS a 2-1 lead. Rose Cassidy was 2-3 with two runs and a stolen base.
The Lady Barons travel to Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
