To the editor:
What school staff would give up a Sunday afternoon to work at a benefit for a student that is not even enrolled in their school? The Jefferson County JVS staff, that's who.
The JVS staff held a benefit on Feb. 19 and raised $3,000 for Justin Cummings, an Indian Creek High School student who was seriously injured in a car accident. Everyone in the school donated money, items, food or time to make the benefit a success.
When the staff heard of the accident and realized the ongoing costs that this family would be facing, they knew they had to help in some way. Justin may not have been our student at the JVS, but we do have three of his football coaches who are teachers in our building. Andrew Connor, Rick Bell and Mike Voltz are a part of the JVS family, and when they wanted to help, we wanted to help.
The JVS staff would like to thank the community which came out in support of our luncheon, and I would personally like to thank the JVS staff for pulling together and making a difference - once again. It is not the first time this staff has given generously to others, and I know it won't be the last.
