McGAUGHY, Paul D., 84, of Toronto, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday Feb. 8, 2012.
Born on March 6, 1927, in Weirton, W.Va., Paul was a son of the late Paul Bracy and Audrey Mary Barhurst McGaughey.
Paul was also preceded in death by his two sons, Paul, Jr. and Donald McGaughey; a daughter, Ina McGaughey; his three brothers, Gorden, Sammy, and Tom McGaughey, and his seven sisters, Diath Goresh, Grace McKitrick, Kate Schroyer, Joyce Doyle, Betty Pratt, Patty Durbin, and Delores Grossi.
Paul retired as an Engineer on the Rail Road with National Steel Weirton Steel Division after 38 years of service. He served his country during World War II with U.S. Navy, aboard the Battleship CEBU. Paul was a recipient of the Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon, and the Asiatic Ribbon.
He was a member of the New Somerset Church, the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the Salvation Army League of Mercy. He volunteered his time singing at area nursing homes.
In his free time, Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Surviving include his wife of 45 years, Kathleen Lamp McGaughey; four daughters, Alice Hylton (Steve) of Gladstone, Mo.; Gail Bears of Moorcroft, Wyo.; Vicki Patrick of Weirton, W.Va., Donna Moody of Texas; his sister, Jo Ann Seey of Burgettstown, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Rob Rowe will preside.
Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, W.Va., with military services conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad.
