STEUBENVILLE - A city man charged in a fatal stabbing and a Toronto man charged with assaulting two girls were among the 10 people indicted by the Jefferson County grand jury on Wednesday.

Teddy L. Clark, 34, of 527 Clinton St. was indicted on charges of murder and tampering with evidence.

James Daniels Jr., 53, of 990 McKinley Ave. walked into the City Police station around 3 a.m. on Jan. 19, saying he had been assaulted. Daniels suffered a deep knife wound to the neck and was profusely bleeding. He lost consciousness at the police station but not before he gave officers some information. Daniels later died at a Pittsburgh hospital.

Daniels told officers he had been with an unknown man at Froehlich's Classic Corner drinking and gave the man a ride to Highland Avenue, where Daniels was assaulted.

Police Detective John Lelless said at Clark's preliminary hearing in municipal court on Friday that he obtained video from the bar that showed Daniels and Clark talking at the bar and then leaving together.

Lelless testified that Clark's wife, Shannan, told him that her husband had called her and said, "I'm sorry. I did something very bad."

Lelless testified that Shannon Clark said her husband repeated the statement when he came home. The wife said her husband had blood on his coat, which he placed on a chair before washing blood off his hands at the kitchen sink, Lelless said.

The coat was recovered by Lelless during a search warrant.

Lelless also said the wife said her husband told her that Daniels had propositioned her husband for sex and he lost it and stabbed Daniels.

The knife used in the stabbing hasn't been recovered.

Also, Danny T. Nichols, 30, of 306 Carnegie Court, Toronto, was indicted on two counts of felonious assault.

Nichols was arrested after allegedly luring and beating two young girls who were on their way home from school on Jan. 3.

Toronto Police reported the girls, ages 12 and 13, were walking home after being dropped off from the school bus near Carnegie Court. They walked through the Dallas Trailer Court when the suspect lured the juveniles toward a wooded strip near a Dumpster, police reported. Nichols lured the two girls by telling them he was watching deer, police reported. Nichols then began to assault the girls when they came near, police reported.

Police reported the 12-year-old managed to get away, while the suspect continued to assault the other girl.

Nichols was arrested later that day by police following an investigation.

Darson E. Williams Jr., 37, of Pittsburgh was indicted on two counts of improperly discharging a firearm into a house and single counts of felonious assault, with a firearm specification, and having a weapon as a convicted felon.

City Police reported Williams fired shots at an occupied vehicle on Dec. 27 in the 500 block of Maxwell Avenue. Police reported gunshots hit two houses. The intended victim wasn't injured, police reported.

The grand jury also returned the following indictments:

Chad A. Hunt Jr., 20, of 1910 Majestic Circle, possession of drugs and illegal conveyance of prohibited items into a detention facility.

Obrian R. Moore, 22, of 434 S. Sixth St., possession of drugs.

Kevin J. Merideth, 20, of 15972 state Route 213, Hammondsville, disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

Michael A. Powley, 30, of 111 W. Main St., Richmond, misdemeanor count of assault.

Angel E. Barnes, 24, of 88 Skyline Blvd., Toronto, felony theft.

Melissa J. Dennis, 26, of 414 Logan Ave., Mingo Junction, single counts of breaking and entering and theft.

Montyel L. Barnes, 29, of 1525 Oregon Ave., two counts of drug trafficking.
