Support for Indian Creek

January 29, 2012
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

I am writing in support of Issue 6, the Indian Creek levy. The 4.95-mill issue works out to 42 cents per day of extra taxes on a $100,000 dollar home. For this the voter will get a new high school, money to renovate existing structures and dollars to provide much-needed operational money to the school district.

I have heard some people say it is too much in taxes, but $12 per month in taxes is less than 4 gallons of gasoline. You can't give 4 gallons of gas per month for a new school? A single shopping trip to Pittsburgh and back costs more than 4 gallons of gas.

We are on the cusp of a boom because of the shale oil and gas. New schools will entice the influx of people to settle in our community. More people mean more businesses will come and revitalize our area. Additionally, the state is giving $7.1 million in support toward this project. It would be a crime to allow that money to slip away. Please vote yes for our children and our community.
