The band Broken Arrow will be performing a tribute to the music of Neil Young beginning at 8 p.m. Feb. 11 at Froehlich’s Classic Corner, 501 Washington St., Steubenville. Those in the band include, front, from left, John Ciaravino, Merv Eddy, Mike Styer, Ray Morgan and back, Mark Koslic.

"Neil Young, one of the most respected and enduring musician and sweltering of our time, has greatly influenced the music of Broken Arrow," Styer continued. "Not only does the band cover Neil Young's songs, his influence can be heard on our two albums, 'River Town' and 'Melancholy Highway.' Young's music ranges from folk, country-rock and hard rock and covers other genres such as punk-rock and blues."

The band includes Styer on lead guitar and vocals. He said he's followed Young's career since the late 1960s. Styer's been inspired and influenced by Young's guitar work as well as his songwriting, and he cited Young as his biggest musical influence.

Koslic, bassist for the band, has played Neil Young songs for as long as he can remember, said Styer. He not only performs them on the bass guitar but on acoustic guitar as well. Eddy adds a special dimension to Young's music by supplying pedal steel guitar to Young's various stylings. Drummer John Ciaravino had played the music of Neil Young long before he joined up with Styer to play music 12 years ago. Guitarist Morgan also includes Young's music as an influence on the music he loves to listen to and perform.

"When (Morgan) and I initially teamed up to form Powerhouse in 1992, we included Neil's songs on our play list," Styer said, adding Broken Arrow plays Neil Young's music with passion. "From the acoustic songs to the driving rock of Neil and Crazy Horse, the group delivers the tender and the hard sides of Young's music. Broken Arrow is not a tribute band but a band that interprets his music and comes through with a true feel for Neil Young's material. The group is anticipating a chance to perform the music of Neil Young in a concert setting and promises to perform the material with enthusiasm and love."
