Recreating gravestone

January 18, 2012
Jeremy Kins , The Herald-Star
Mary Jo DiPietro and her fourth-grade social studies class at Wintersville Elementary School recreated the gravestone of Martin Luther King Jr. to celebrate his life as part of their recent lessons, in addition to readings and workbook activities. DiPietro said it was the idea of one of her students, Nathan Zink, who after learning about Dr. King in class said he wanted to visit MLK’s gravesite in Georgia. Rather than making the trip, they created a replica. The idea of the project was to do something to honor a man who helped so many people, said Zink. Some of those taking part in the project were, from left, Madi Freshwater; Nicole Walkosky; Zink; Desiree Kaufmann; and Jaeda Smith.
