RECOGNIZED: Darrel Lawrence, humanities assistant professor, was named employee of month for December at Eastern Gateway Community College.

Lawrence joined the college in 1998 as an adjunct instructor before being hired full time in 2000. Prior to teaching, he was a freelance technical writer.

A member of the National Council of Teachers of Education, Lawrence also served on the Transfer Assurance Guide Committee for the Ohio Board of Regents and was a judge for the Steubenville City Schools Annual Spelling Bee.

He holds a bachelor's degree in English from California State University and a master's degree in English from West Virginia University.

RECruiting: Eastern Gateway Community College hired two new admissions representatives for student recruitment in the Mahoning Valley.

Added as recruiter/advisers were Andrea Mahone and Nicole Prihoda, both of Youngstown.

Mahone was city youth director for the city of Youngstown before joining the college. She previously worked with a parent project for the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center and was an employment specialist for the Mahoning County Job and Family Services.

Mahone holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Kent State University and is pursuing a master's degree in counseling/human services from Liberty University. A member of the Youngstown City School Board, Mahone belongs to the OSU Mahoning County 4-H Advisory Board. She previously served on the mayor's task force executive board, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board of Directors, Junior League of Youngstown Community Advisory Board, Youngstown Northside Weed & Seed Community Board and Mahoning Valley Access to Care Network.

In 2008, Mahone received the outstanding youth services award for best youth programming in Youngstown, Mayor's Task Force.

Prihoda earned a bachelor of science degree in health care administration from KSU. During her studies, she completed an internship at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Youngstown. Previously, she worked as a processing legal clerk for Javitch, Block and Rathbone, as well as customer service at Kmart.

When not visiting high schools, businesses, civic groups and other organizations, the admissions representatives will maintain office hours at the Valley Center, now located on the fourth floor of Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E.
