STEUBENVILLE - A new salon is opening in downtown Steubenville.
Things We Grow owners Veronica and Harold Leake have scheduled their grand opening celebration for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the new salon, located on the first floor of the historic Fort Steuben Hotel.
Leake, with 12 years of experience at various salons in the community, said the shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, though she said special arrangements can always be made for after-hours service. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are accepted.
Licensed since 1999, Vernonica Leake said now that her children are older, "I'm ready to venture out and open my own salon."
"I told my husband I wanted to do it and he's been beside me ever since," she said.
She said they'll do eyebrows and nails as well as haircuts, hair color and perms, and she is recruiting a managing cosmetologist looking for self-employment opportunities.
Leake graduated from the Century School of Cosmetology. Also on the Things We Grow staff is stylist Ronni Edwards of Steubenville, who had been with Simon Sez before its closing.
