Food distribution

November 17, 2011
The Herald-Star
Mingo Social Services distributed about 250 Thanksgiving baskets on Wednesday. Sophie Schoolcraft, Mingo Social Services director, said about $8,000 was donated by current and former residents and businesses, including Wal-Mart, which provided poultry, meat and other food items. Hills Elementary and Indian Creek Junior High schools each donated about 1,200 canned goods, in addition to donations of food items and cash from the churches within the village. Helping to pack the baskets were, front to back, Schoolcraft and Joey Donley and Allyssa Dipietro, both eighth-graders at the junior high school. Mingo Social Services is accepting donations and distribution requests for Christmas baskets. - Mark Law
