To the editor:
So as you may know, the voting polls are about to open. This means important decisions are going to need to be made. One very important decision to be made is the Edison Local School District's levy. This year we all need to stand as one and say "yes."
Saying "yes" to this levy will help day-to-day operations. This will not go toward any new programs, but help sustain the programs we already have available, such as our dual credit program that helps students receive college credit for classes they are enrolled in. As a current junior at Edison High School, I want this program to remain operating. I want to earn college credit next year.
The cost of the levy will be 9.45 mills, which is equivalent to $3,118,500. The money generated from the levy will last for five years. As stated by Dave Quattrochi, Edison superintendent, "The monthly cost for a $100,000 home will be $24." A senior homestead exemption will be $18 a month. The small amount of money you'll pay will help further a student's education and also help Edison Local Schools to remain "Schools of Excellence."
The education of our future students is very important. The education of your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and neighbors lies in your hands. Do you want to jeopardize our future? So I hope we all think this matter through, because together we can help many students' educations go farther. Remember to vote "yes" on Nov. 8 for the Edison Local levy. It will help maintain the schools' programs. But also help further your children's education. This lies in your hands now.
