Players to stage ‘Return of Glass Slipper’

August 11, 2011
From staff reports , The Herald-Star

WEIRTON - The Weirton Community Players will present "Return of the Glass Slipper" in the Milton J. Weinburg Theater at Weir High School at 8 p.m. today through Saturday and Aug. 18-20; and at 3 p.m. Sunday and Aug. 21.

The musical is a twist on the classic tale of Cinderella and her glass slipper, according to Jessie Dettore, co-director of the Weirton Community Players.

"This is certainly a musical that will make (those attending) laugh so hard they barely will be able to catch their breath," said Dettore. "The characters from the classic tale are all there - the King and Queen, the Fairy Godmother, Cinderella and the evil stepmother and her two wacky daughters, who just happen to be identical twins."

Dettore said the musical is a refreshing take on the familiar theme, and the cast of "Return of the Glass Slipper" has worked hard to make the production entertaining.

"The musical has the magic, the fun - right through to the happy ending but just in a slightly different way," she said. "It might be a little different than what people remember, but it's well worth the trip. It's great for the whole family. We hope everyone will come enjoy this hilarious comedy, and they'll be tapping their toes and laughing like never before."

The cast includes John Reid as the King; Rupert Rachel Bainbridge as Queen Philomena; Michael McGee as Sir Edward; Mandi Soplinski as Endora, one of the stepsisters; Christopher Everhart as Pandora, another stepsister, Ashley Lucas as Mergatroid the stepmother; Kacie Craig as Cinderella; Nick Campbell and Shane Livada as Prince Albert; and Alicia Licause as Harmonia the Fairy Godmother. The ensemble includes Hunter Dodson, Jordan Strope, Jen Krause, Kaitlynn Krause, Hope Krause, Isaac Krause, Micah Krause, Luke Krause Ashley Sanders, Lyla Soplinski, Madalena Daugherty, Nina Daugherty, Jillian Dodson, Katie Licause, Cheri Gryskevich, Sofia-Teresa DiBacco, David George and Sierra Mortimer.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children 12 and younger. Tickets are available at the door or by calling (304) 723-2222.
