The Herald-Star

WEIRTON - Three Brooke County Reading Council officers participated in the District I meeting of the West Virginia Reading Association in Moundsville.

Co-Presidents Maryann Ehle and Sharon Cuomo and Treasurer Jenny Stucin presented reports on the council's community activities. District I includes Brooke, Hancock, Ohio, Marshall and Wood counties.

The reading association includes nine other regional districts. Districts meet several times a year to discuss council activities.

Ehle, Cuomo and Stucin reported on their Partnership-in-Literacy programs with Brooke County Library Director Mary Kay Wallace and Program Coordinator Kim Harless.

The partnership between the two organizations was established in 1993 and, among other literacy activities, is based on the Young People's Literature Programs presented by Ehle and Cuomo once or twice monthly.

They also described council programs designed to encourage and recognize young readers and writers in Brooke County Schools, including Look Who's Reading in Brooke County, and "Spring Fling - It's a Writing Thing."
