OPINION: Honor America’s birthday

June 24, 2011
The Herald-Star

The annual village Fourth of July parade will kick off the holiday at 10:30 a.m. July 4.

The parade will begin at Riesbeck's and end at Kroger with parade entries being accepted until the day of the parade.

Parade participants are asked to begin lining up at 9 a.m. Monday morning at Riesbeck's parking lot.

Following the parade, the annual memorial service will be at the gazebo on Winters Drive, and a picnic in Walnut Park will end the day. All residents are welcome to attend.

This parade serves as a wonderful community event for members of the village and beyond and is a great way to get involved. The event sees a number of participants marching down Main Street as well as people lining the street, cheering for their favorite float and enjoying the atmosphere each year. The sense of welcoming and camaraderie speaks volumes during this annual event.

If you are not busy, make sure to get out on the parade route and support your neighbors. Sport your favorite red, white and blue attire and honor America's birthday in style.
