Cleaning along the river
Several area children joined in to help make this year’s Ohio River Sweep a success Saturday morning. The annual riverbank cleanup, held locally at the Steubenville Marina and the wharf in Wellsburg, also extends the length of the Ohio River and beyond. Organized by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, more than 3,000 miles of shoreline were combed for trash and debris. Among those taking part in the River Sweep held at the marina were Smithfield residents Leslie Johnson and her daughters Taylor and Hunter of the 4-H Club “Free Spirits,” along with Bloomingdale resident Maggie Corder, Yellow Creek Watershed coordinator, and her son, Jacob Corder.
