Edison honors its scholars

RICHMOND - Graduating and deserving students from Edison High School were praised and presented with awards and scholarship during the high school honors banquet held Sunday at the Countryside.

Dozens of academic and other awards were presented to students from faculty members in front of family, fellow students, friends and administration after a welcome from Matt Morrison, Edison High School principal.

The Class of 2011 top 10 was named during the affair, and included Kathleen Hartzell, Zachary Latynski, Kaylee Lukacena and Jaye Taylor, co-valedictorians; Amanda Connelly and Alexandra Miro, co-salutatorians; and William Orr II, Hayley Argentine, Alexis Pugh, Marisa Carpenter and Gregory Wickham II. Carpenter and Wickham were tied as part of the top 10.

Third-year letter recipients included Brandon Bradley, Courtney Byers, Jordan Byrley, Marisa Carpenter, Alyssa Fisher, Nikki Haese, Jordan Hanchin, Dylan Kramarich, Karlie Markert, Dakota McGrew, Alexandria Miro, Alexis Pugh, Zachary Smith, Jack Stine and Gregory Wickham II.

The Edison High School Arion Award was presented to Devon Satkowski and Zachary Smith. The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was presented to Taylir Stewart. The John Philip Sousa Award went to Mariah Brandon. The Ohio Boys State delegate was Zachary Smith, while the Ohio Conference Girls State delegates were Jordan Byrley and Miranda Thweatt. The Archie Griffin Sportmanship Award was presented to Brandon Bradley and Corissa Myler, while the courageous student award was given to Jordan Byrley. The U.S. Marine's Semper Fi Awards included academic award, Jaye Taylor; athletic award, Brandon Bradley; and the music award, Devon Satkowshki.

The U.S. Army Student Athletic Award went to Zachary Smith and Kathleen Hartzell.

The Amsterdam Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 232 Women's $100 scholarship was awarded to Nikki Haese. The Amsterdam Women's Club $100 scholarship was given to Bailey Gooderl and Jack Stine.

Bergholz Community Foundation $1,000 scholarships were presented to Haylee Argentine, Ashley Beadnell, Marisa Carpenter, Amanda Connelly, Ryan Dowdell, Nikki Haese, Kathleen Hartzell, Ryan LeMasters, Justin Louk, Michael McGlone, Alexandria Miro, William Orr II, Alexis Pugh, Taylir Stewart, Jack Stine and Dana Still.

The Bergholz Ruritan Club $200 scholarships were presented to Marisa carpenter, Ryan Dowdell, Taylir Stewart and Jack Stine. The Bergholz Women's Club $100 scholarship was given to Marisa Carpenter.

Beta Club $500 scholarship were presented to Amanda Connelly and Kaylee Lukacena, while the Mary B. Dye $500 scholarship was presented to Jordan Byrley.

The Charles and Thelma Pugliese Charitable Foundation $500 scholarship were presented to Alyssa Fisher, Nikki Haese, Zachary Latynski and Samantha Pollock. The East Springfield Women's Club $500 scholarship was presented to Taylir Stewart. The Eastern Gateway Community College Trustees $10,000 scholarship was given to William Orr II.

Edison High School Alumni $200 scholarships were given to Merideth Bickar, Alexis Carte, Kari Kinney, Karlee Morrison and Zachary Smith. Edison High School Student Council $200 scholarships were presented to Haylee Argentine, Jordan Byeley, Samantha Pollock and Zachary Smith. Edison Local Education Association $500 scholarships were given to Amanda Connelly and Kaylle Lukacena.

The Jefferson County Farm Bureau $500 scholarship was presented to Alexis Forte. The John and Blanche Mussio $2,000 scholarship was awarded to Taylor Stewart. The John Gregg PTO $250 scholarship was presented to Marisa Carpenter. The John E. Gregg Memorial $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Nikki Haese. The John Stepien Memorial $100 scholarship was presented to Alexandria Miro. The Judy Maple Foundation $2,000 scholarship was awarded to Kaylee Lukacena. The Martha McKinley $1,000 scholarship was presented to Jaye Taylor. The Medical Mutual of Ohio $500 scholarship was given to Alyssa Fisher. The Michael Artman Memorial $500 scholarship was presented to Kaylee Lukacena.

The Milestone Benefit Agency Inc. $500 scholarships went to Jordan Byrley and Zachary Latynski. The Moorhead Family Band $500 scholarships were awarded to Karlee Markert and Michael McGlone. The Ohio Valley College of Technology $2,000 award was presented to Courtney Byers. The Richmond Lions Club 4350 scholarship was presented to Samantha Pollock. The Rotary Club of Steubenville $500 scholarship was given to Jaye Taylor. The Sara Schaefer Memorial $500 scholarship was presented to Jaye Taylor.

The Stanton Middle School PTO $500 scholarships were given to Jordan Byrley and William Orr II. The Nina Gentile $500 scholarship was awarded to Bryanna Elliott. The McClellan Trust Fund $750 award was presented to Kala Gault. The Scott School of Cosmetology $1,000 scholarship was presented to Emily Hilty. The Project BEST School $1,000 scholarship was presented to Zachary Smith. The Samuel and Grace H. Johnston $1,200 scholarship was presented to Gregory Wickham. A total of $55,400 in scholarship funds were presented.
