Carmike firm has EchoStar deal

STEUBENVILLE - Carmike Cinemas and Deluxe/EchoStar have signed a deal for satellite distribution of content to Carmike's 239 theaters, which includes the Carmike Cinemas at the Fort Steuben Mall. Carmike's digital cinema footprint reaches 2,103 screens in 36 states.

Satellite equipment installation is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The system will permit the distribution of 2D and 3D content, trailers, live events and other media programming, as well as accommodating closed captioning, sub-titles and gaming. The two companies said benefits include faster content delivery through transmission of a movie in hours and a trailer in minutes, as well as a reduction in freight costs associated with shipping hard drives to theaters.
