Candidates for mayor and several council seats will appear on ballots in elections to be held in Follansbee and Weirton Tuesday.
The polling sites will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Wellsburg City Council has decided not to hold a primary election this year because no candidate would be eliminated. The town of Bethany traditionally holds only a general election.
But the primary election in Follansbee will eliminate one of three candidates for mayor. And Weirton's primary election will eliminate a number of candidates in races for council seats, including one representing the city's 5th Ward in Brooke County.
Vying for Follansbee mayor are: John A. Casinelli of 1015 Virginia Ave., R. Glenn Kocher of 531 Penn St., and David Velegol Jr. of 400 Heathermoor Drive. Incumbent Tony Paesano chose not to seek re-election.
Two candidates for police chief - challenger Arty Quattrochi of 540 Mahan Ave., and incumbent John W. Schwertfeger of 1083 Jefferson St. - will advance to the June 14 general election. Other elected officials are unchallenged.
Vying for the 5th Ward Council seat in Weirton are: Tracy DiBacco of 3725 Woodlawn Way, Justin Bull of 3808 Brightway St., John Brown of 3549 Lindberg Way, and George Gaughenbaugh of 3704 Riverview Drive.
George Kondik, the city's current 5th Ward Councilman; and Harold "Bubba" Miller, the city's current 2nd Ward Councilman, are vying for the position of mayor and will advance to the city's June 14 general election.
Former Weirton Councilman John Moore had declared his candidacy earlier this year but has since withdrawn. Current mayor Mark Harris chose not to seek re-election.
Also on the ballots will be candidates for the following council seat:
1st Ward: incumbent Ronnie Jones of 312 North 10th St., and challengers Charles Mitchell of 628 Titus St., and Bill Zanieski of 159 McKinley Road.
